EXPLORING LOWELL AND WARREN

In this motorized tour, we will first view the Lavendar Pit where the tour guide will tell you about the history of mining in Bisbee and the evolution from the smelting to the electrochemical process of separating the copper from the ore.
After that, we will visit Erie Street in the ghost town of Lowell which is home to a plethora of vintage cars. Lowell is also the home of the first Bisbee Breakfast Club. Here, also, the tour host will explain why the thriving community of Lowell was abandoned and why it is now in jeopardy of being permanently closed.
After that we will visit the Shady Dell to tour its vintage motor homes and cars.
After Lowell, we will visit the Bisbee suburb of Warren which has the distinction of being Arizona's first planned community. Although there were mines operating in the vicinity, Warren was primarily designed as a bedroom community for the more affluent citizens of the mining district. It was named after legendary George Warren, one of the first people to stake a copper claim in the Mule Mountains and whose image graces the Arizona State Seal.
If the tour is scheduled on Saturday, we will take a break at the Bisbee Farmers Market, always a lively event.
The tour will proceed through the Warren mural district and visit the skate park which has seen the contribution of many guerilla aka graffiti artists.
Lastly, we will visit the Evergreen Cemetery where the sometimes-colorful residents of Bisbee now rest in the peace.
This tour is by special reservation which is preferably made at least two weeks in advance of the requested date. Although less than 4 reservations can be requested, the tour may be cancelled if less than a total of four reservations are made prior to the tour dated. The tour commences at 9:00 a.m. (Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can check you in.) Tour participants will meet at the Grassy Park in old town Bisbee where they will be transported to and from the tour sites. Approximate total time including transportation is 5 hours.
